Meet Laura Cipullo

Dietitian, Founder, CEO

Laura Cipullo has over 20 years as a Registered Dietitian. She is a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist, Certified Eating Disorder Registered Dietitian Supervisor, 500-hour Advanced Yoga Teacher and four-time author. She is the founder of Laura Cipullo Whole Nutrition + Yoga, with offices in NYC and New Jersey, where she and her team teach clients how to Eat Kale and Cupcakes™! and how to live mindfully.

For clients who want to change their relationship with food and their body, the Whole Nutrition + Yoga practice provides individual, couple and family nutrition sessions, as well as weekly mindful meal support therapy.

In private practice since 2000, Laura has treated thousands of clients. She specializes in child and adult prevention and treatment of eating disorders including family-based treatment (FBT), family nutrition, gastrointestinal health, and diabetes education. Additionally, their expertise includes women’s wellness, such as breast cancer, menopause, and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

Laura comes from a big Italian family with big appetites, who have a greater genetic propensity to diabetes. As a breast cancer survivor, she has firsthand experience overcoming significant health challenges.

Laura’s approach combines her credentialed expertise in nutrition, behavioral change, the endocrine system, and psychology. It is grounded in evidence-based scientific principles. While she teaches eating organic, sustainable foods the majority of the time, she believes “all foods fit”. Her clients love her compassionate, mindful, ‘wholistic’ approach to positive nutrition and her motto, “Eat Kale and Cupcakes™!” Laura will help you develop a neutral relationship with food and body, ultimately resulting in positive eating experiences.

For three years, Laura served as the President of the New York Chapter of the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals. Under her leadership, the chapter grew from 20 members to almost 200 members. This national organization’s mission is to educate professionals who treat individuals with eating disorders, and to serve as a credentialing agency that recognizes those who achieve expertise as Certified Eating Disorders Specialists. Email Laura to inquire about fees and availability for CEDRD supervision at Laura@LauraCipullo.com.

After participating on the IADEP board for ten years, Laura received the Spirit of IAEDEP award, given to members of ten years or more who demonstrate consistent service and loyalty to the board’s mission. In 2019, Laura stepped down to focus on supervising registered dietitians pursuing their CEDRD credential.

In 2016, Laura earned her 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher status at LifePower Yoga and in 2020, she completed her 300-hour advanced yoga training at Juluka Yoga. She offers private yoga and mindfulness sessions in her NYC and NJ offices as well as virtually, and free on demand yoga. The yoga philosophy and breathing techniques are also woven into nutrition sessions with Laura.

Laura’s fourth book, “Everyday Diabetes, Meals for One or Two”. (Robert Rose, March 2017), a joint effort between Laura and her colleague, Lisa Mikus, RD, contains 150 diabetes-friendly recipes for singles and couples. The recipes are organized into breakfast, lunch and dinner for easy meal planning and are all between 45 and 60 grams of carbohydrate. Laura and Lisa offer diabetes meal essentials in three chapters, including answers to the most frequently asked questions about diabetes.

In her third book, “Women’s Health Body Clock Diet” (Rodale, December 2015), Laura applies her positive nutrition approach used in her practice. This transformational book is designed to reset your 24-hour body clock through six weeks of meal “structures,” and is the only book on the market written by a RD, CDCES and CEDRD, combining factual endocrine discoveries, nutrition, recipes and tools to stabilize adverse hormonal fluctuations.

Laura co-authored “Diabetes Comfort Food Diet”. (Rodale, 2012) with editors of Prevention magazine. Originally intended only for subscribers, the book was so successful it was reissued by a new publisher three years later (Robert Rose, August 2015), and is available at Barnes and Noble, Amazon and local book sellers.

In an effort to promote positive relationships with food and body at an early age, Laura created the lesson book “Healthy Habits,”. an eight-week program that teaches adults how to explain nutrition and health to kids using a weight-neutral approach. This instructional tool is designed to prevent ‘disordered eating,’ frequently the precursor to eating disorders, as evidenced by yo-yo dieting, poor body image and the conscious monitoring of one’s food intake.

Laura earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Human Nutrition and Dietetics at Colorado State University. She completed her didactic internship at New York–Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center; for six years, Laura held the distinguished position of Clinical Dietitian at the hospital. She was the Nutrition Coordinator for CEDAR Associates in Westchester and Rockland counties, and a consultant for the Renfrew Center in NJ and NYC. CEDAR and Renfrew are both outpatient eating disorder treatment facilities.

Laura is a frequent contributor, providing nutrition expertise to the Associated Press, Marie Claire, Yahoo!, Women’s Health, Prevention, Insider, Fitness, VICE, Travel + Leisure, Real Simple Magazine, OK!
