An Easy (and Fun!) Way to Support the Learning Needs of Children with Autism

Bag1by Laura Cipullo, RD, CDE, CEDRD and Laura Cipullo Whole Nutrition Services Team

April is a big month for autism awareness. The 8th Annual World Autism Awareness Day is on the 2nd, a day when the United Nations strives to promote awareness of the issue, while the entire month of April is National Autism Awareness Month. (Learn more and find out how you can get involved here.)

An easy (and fun!) way to support the learning needs of children with autism is by purchasing my tanks and totes complete with body-positive messages like “Eat Kale and Cupcakes” and “All Foods Fit and All Bodies Fit.” It’s a great way to express your body-positivity and promote the message to others at the gym, at work, or wherever you happen to be. For the months of March and April, 10% of the sales from these tanks and totes are going to the PTO P&V Parent Teacher Organization, to help them support the learning needs of children with autism.

The PTO P&V Inc. is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization formed nearly twenty years ago to:
  • Provide for the purchase of incremental learning, teaching, and training aids that will enhance the development of our children (these are items not covered by the annual school budget)
  • Facilitate our children’s development and enthusiasm for learning by coordinating and sponsoring special events such music therapy and community experience
  • Provide an opportunity for parents, teachers, and administrators to develop and enhance support networks with and among each other, so as to fully support our common interest in our children’s successful development

PTO-funded programs serve more than 200 children from 40 towns in Northern New Jersey.

Buying a tank or tote (or more than one — consider gifts for friends!) will help you feel good about yourself, and at the same time, allow you to do good for others, so I hope you’ll consider the purchase!
